FSC Wood Upcycled Design FSC Wood FSC stands for "Forest Stewardship Council," an independent non-profit established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world's forests and to prevent rampant deforestation. If a company is "FSC Certified," you know they engage in sustainable, environmental practices and participate in helping to carefully produce and consume forest products without causing irreversible damage to the forest and surrounding land. iram-inal is proud to say that we purchase our wood base materials from FSC certified vendors, or "reclaim" the wood ourselves for jewelry use. Upcycled Design "Upcycled" and "Upcycling" are common words in the vernacular of modern eco-friendly independent designers. One easy way to define upcycling is "trash to treasure": turn something was going going to be thrown away or discarded, and instead utilize it into a different wearable/usable form. By doing so, the designer turns the item - which used to be of little or lesser value - into something of retail or sentimental value. |
